Jordan Day 4

We visited a small village in the North of Jordan today called Mafraq, right in the middle of the desert. The village had about 15 small homes and tiny mosque, all approximately the same size with concrete floors and walls made from bare cinder blocks. Most of the houses had doors, but often the windows were plastic sheets. A toilet was often shared between two or more houses and the homes had very little in them apart from the people. Needless to say these villagers who once had established lives in Syria now lived in poverty.

On top of rent for the land they pay for the materials to build the houses in monthly instalments to a loan shark that I can only assume is more than taking advatage of them. They pay through the nose for water to be delivered to them each month and have to pay people to transport their children to school because it is so far away. They have to do the same any time they want to buy groceries.

Throughout the day we ran activities outdoors with the enormous amount of children while part of our team went home to home gifting them with everyday essentials like coats, matts, and diapers and formula for the infants. At the end of the day we were able to give each of the children a gift bag with hygiene products and snacks, and thanks to our fundraising and donors every home will be equipped with a heater for the coming winter.
