Today we visited Mount Hermon/Phillipi Ceaseria in the Golan Heights. The Golan Heights were previously seized by Israel from Syria during the Six Day War and henceforth borders Syria with a ceasefire line.
We went to the top of one of the mountains where there were old bunkers and trenches from the war. A single soldier from the United Nations stood watch over the vast valley that stretched into Syria. We could see for miles and miles across the land of Syria and could see the old and the new cities. But the longer we stood there the more erie it became. From the Mount we could hear explosions in the distance and see the occasional flash. Many of us had never seen true war unfold before our very eyes and it dawned on all of us that there were real people below in danger of those explosions.
It grants true perspective of where the refugees that we will be dealing with are coming from.

In the evening we also had the chance to meet with our tour guide Amer from 2014. We had all become like family on that trip and it was very nice to be able to connect again and hear where Amer and his family were at 2 years later.
