Into the Woods

Updated: Jul 6, 2019

Last week we were given the privilege of fully immersing ourselves in the Australian wilderness as we camped in Tuan National Park for our team building week.

Our camp site, appropriately named “Log Dump” was on the shore of the Great Sandy Strait approximately an hour from Rainbow Beach. There, the repellent resistant sand flies lived in abundance, devouring our flesh without hesitation, bestowing upon us a newfound appreciation for mosquitos. However, despite the bugs the Log Dump camp site continually blessed us with stunning sunrises, sunsets and the most exhilarating night sky you’ll see.

When we weren’t soaking in the various aspects of the nature around us, we spent or days studying cross cultural communication and engaging in various, often intense, team building exercises. Each of these exercises catered to our school in an effort to prepare us for the many situations we may be presented with overseas and within the dynamics of our team. This was incredibly helpful in pushing our teams to discover where each of our individual strengths lie, and how they not only work together, but could cause friction.

It was a stretching week for me in many ways, particularly in the uncertainty of schedule (purposefully done), but I have walked away from these experiences with a new-found confidence in my team and our abilities.

I can’t wait to see what is in store for us in Malaysia!
