1 & 2 Thessalonians - SBS Teaching April 2020

1 & 2 Thessalonians are letters that were written to believers who were suffering through persecutions, and some were even dying because of it! Despite their situation, they were still faithful, continuing to walk as imitators of Christ.

Paul writes to them praising them for their faithfulness and reminding them that even though they may be in persecution now, Christ will win in the end. But until that day comes, they must stay alert, sober, and continue to be imitators of Christ.

These letters are rich and are particularly relatable now as we find ourselves in the midst of a global pandemic. Though this is not a situation exactly like the Thessalonians, this is certainly a time of suffering and separation for many people, Christians included.

Fortunately, the Thessalonians letters remind us that we do not have to grieve in the same way as those who have no hope, we can turn to Christ and be encouraged and comforted by Him, knowing that He always brings victory! Be encouraged today to follow in the steps of the Thessalonians who were faithful imitators of Christ!

If you're familiar with Thessalonians you'll also remember that there are some tricky or confusing passages which are frequently attributed with the end times. With this, I want to note that these teachings were given to a class which had previously studied a great deal of historical background and Biblical Genres that help with the breakdown of these passages. If you are not as familiar with 1st Century History or Apocalyptic Literature it may be helpful to listen to my other Thessalonians teachings here >> which I gave in a Bible study that didn't have the same background knowledge.

Now for these teachings, in the first Part I cover the Historical Background.

In Part 2 & 3 I delve into the specifics of the texts of 1 & 2 Thessalonians. For your reference, you can see my History After Jesus Handout here >> , and Apocalyptic Literature Handout here >>, which I reference in my teachings.

I hope that these teachings are of benefit to you. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to me on my contact forum.
